Here are some of the careers that will be most promising (i.e. hiring and growth potential, and salary) according to Kiplinger Magazine for the coming years.  My advice to parents; encourage your student to plan the next few years in high school and college carefully, and to pursue a career that will pay off!

  1. Biomedical engineers
  2. Network Systems and Data Communications Analysts
  3. Financial Examiners
  4. Medical Scientists
  5. Physician’s Assistants
  6. Biochemists/Biophysicists
  7. Registered Nurses
  8. Accountants/Auditors
  9. Physical Therapist
  10. Project Manager

Each of these careers is challenging in its own right, and certainly requires a strong high school and college program from the student. We all want our students to be accepted to the college of their choice, but these days the college application process has gone “over the top” with requirements and competitiveness. This is a direct result of

  • More students applying and attending college than ever before in history, and
  • A very high level of expectation placed on the applicants from the college admissions, particularly the selective and highly selective institutions.

Many of you are already familiar with the competitiveness of our Texas state schools, several of which I would now classify as selective or even highly selective.

What can you do as a parent to prepare your student?  My best advice; be a partner in planning with your student, and start early! Remember, there are really only three years of high school that are applicable in the college applications process. The students will apply their senior year, therefore the statistics sent to the colleges will pertain only to freshman though junior years.

I would love to speak with you about my college application coaching services:
